Hi

My name is Doug Horn and I live and work in the 'sustainability' world. In my life I try and reduce my consumption as much as possible, don't take whim trips to Vegas, ride my bike as much as humanly possible (over 150,000 km), generate all my own electricity with my PV system, create one small bag of garbage a month (if that), use less energy in my house than required by the European Passivhaus standard, grow vegetables, collect rainwater, don't eat a lot of meat, and love the outdoors. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I am the perfect 'greenie' as there are always ways I could do things better. I try my best and love talking to others to see share experiences, see what others are doing and see how I can incorporate new and innovative ideas.

In my work life I am presently an Energy Specialist for Vancouver Coastal Health. In my role I work with a team that is reducing the energy consumption and increasing the energy efficiency of health care facilities. The team encompasses a number of people also working on sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction, transportation, procurement, and employee engagement to help lessen the impact of the organization. I have not been here long but from what I have seen so far the group is very dedicated to making a difference and being green.
